Chucky Sneak Peek Brings Killer Doll Back To School For A Small Slice And Dice

We’re only two weeks away from Brad Dourif’s return as everyone’s favorite murderous doll, and we’ve had our first glimpse of the series outside of previously released trailers. In the clip of the show, we find Chucky to school using his most beloved weapon, a knife. But rather than using it on a new human victim, he spins a frog in science class. Surely it won’t lead to anything other than good things for everyone, will it? Well, we don’t have too much time to wait and find out.

Chucky brings the horror icon to the small screen for the first time, with Don Mancini putting together a whole roster of Child’s play stars such as Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, Fiona Dourif and Christine Elise and promises that it will be the exact same Chucky that we saw in the original Child’s Play movies, but that it will also go to places that the movies did not and will explore Chucky’s story in more depth.

“Fans have asked a lot of questions about Chucky’s origins since he first appeared in 88,” Mancini teased in a previous interview with geek lair“How did he become a killer in the first place?” How did he come to learn about voodoo? I think people will find all of this really interesting. “

The series also brings new blood to the franchise, and Final Destination star Devon Sawa joins the chaos. While Chucky is not expected to face off against his former enemies and friends, Mancini was quick to point out that Sawa fits in very well with existing cast members. “One of our habits that we’ve developed over the course of the movies is adding to our family and finding ways to keep it. I’d definitely love to do that with Devon.”

One thing to take away from this commentary is that it looks like this series won’t be the last we’ll see from Chucky, and there’s more to come from the franchise. Like many horror properties from the past, you can’t keep the villains long enough to come up with a new concept, and the deeper and longer storytelling that can come from having Chucky on the small screen seems like the kiss of life. Mancini was waiting to give the little creature with the plastic face.

The official series synopsis reads: “After a vintage Chucky doll shows up at a suburban garage sale, an idyllic American town is plunged into chaos as a series of gruesome murders begin to expose the city’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies – and allies – from Chucky’s past threaten to reveal the truth behind the murders, as well as the demonic doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who has somehow become that notorious monster. ” Chucky will debut on SyFy and USA Network on October 12.
