Cops nab 17 in raid on two illegal gambling dens


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 17 people have been arrested following searches at two illegal gambling dens in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Bukit Aman CID Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) Senior Deputy Director Comm Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said the first raids were carried out at a store in Jalan Batu Tiga Lama in Klang at around 6:45 p.m. on Monday (January 31) .

“We detained 11 local men and two local women as well as a foreign woman between the ages of 21 and 50.

“We also seized 14 laptops, a modem and RM1,598 in cash,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (February 1).

The second raid took place at business premises in Setapak Jaya around 10:45 p.m. on Monday, he added.

“We detained three local men between the ages of 21 and 35.

“We also seized four laptops, two tablets, a mobile phone, a router, a modem and RM205 in cash,” he said.

All those detained will be investigated, SAC Mohamad Noor Yusof said.

“We believe the premises have been running for about two months and bringing in about RM5,000 in profit per month,” he said.

SAC Mohamad Noor Yusof said the police are committed to tackling illegal gambling in the country.
