STATEN ISLAND, NY – A new restaurant-centric program is in place to help feed homebound seniors. The effort is also aimed at boosting sales at local restaurants.

Staten Island’s Meals On Wheels has launched its second annual “Donate & Dine” campaign. The 50-year-old non-profit will reward those who contribute $ 75 to Meals on Wheels with $ 50 gift cards at a participating location of their choice. In addition, the organization is also organizing a virtual 50/50. It includes a raffle to raise additional funds.

“We are so happy to be able to host this event again this year which has proven to be so useful. I called it a win-win event for everyone involved, ”said Joseph Tornello, President and CEO of Meals.

He explained the winning trifecta: “The first prize is for the person who gets the ticket because they choose and receive a $ 50 gift card for a list of participating restaurants or food businesses. The second victory is to support our restaurants and food stores from which we will buy gift cards to attract future guests and customers.

And the third “winner” is the benefit for homebound seniors who receive meals every day. Staten Island Means on Wheels currently feeds more than 1,300 elderly people a day, many of whom depend on it for their sole source of nutrition, according to the organization. He notes that 80% of meals are delivered by volunteers.

Tornello said: “We are so grateful for the generous support this event has generated for our community.”

The campaign will end on November 18 with a live event hosted at Gio’s Restaurant in Eltingville, where raffle winners will be selected. Donors will receive their gift cards by mail at the end of the campaign.
