The driver of the bus that rammed the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) staff bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savars Boliarpur on Sunday (May 5, 2022), killing four of his staff, also died that day.

With the death of bus driver Maruf Hossain Munna, 24, the death toll in the crash has risen to five, our Savar correspondent reports, citing Savar Highway Police Station OC Atiqur Rahman.

The OC said Maruf was rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

“I heard the body was taken to his hometown of Chandpur,” the police officer said.

HOW DID THE ACCIDENT HAPPEN?

The driver of the Safe Line Paribahan bus lost control of the vehicle and caused the accident.

The bus first collided with a bus parked on the side of the road and then got into a truck. The bus then crashed into the road divider, breaking it and hitting the BAEC bus across the street.

Four BAEC employees, including three officers, were killed and 20 others injured in the accident.
